Sight Words are simply any word you know by sight. High frequency words refer to how often a word appears in text. These are often actually decodable when you know all the phonics concepts. However, students often need these words before they learn all of the phonics concepts. I use an approach that still orthographically maps HFW based on phonics for the parts they know. And explicitly teaching the parts that don’t as heart sounds because we have to know them by heart. Then they become part of students’ sight word vocabulary through repetition and practice. I call this method HEART WORDS
