Five Math Tools for Kindergarten

Within 5 minutes of reading this post, you will know the best math tools for kindergarten. I am going to share some of my favorite math tools for Kindergarten (and First Grade). I know what you’re thinking – Tess you’re a reading specialist, not a math teacher. True but I have taught K/1 Math for 8 years. There are a few tools I think are essential for helping students learn the foundational concepts of math in Kindergarten or as an Intervention in First Grade.

The Math Tools for Kindergarten are:

1. Dice

2. Subitizing Cards

3. A Number Line

4. Number Cards

5. Dominos

Dice

Dice are great for a variety of math activities and games in other activities that sneak in a little math when using dice like my roll and read activities.

Number Cards

Number Cards can be used for a variety of math activities. They are a basic math tool and these are 1-120 and happen to be FREE in my TPT store by clicking the picture below.

A Number Line

Number Lines are useful tools for numbers above 20. The one in my store includes the numeral and number word.

Subitizing Cards

Subitizing is the phonemic awareness of Math. This foundational skill is a great predictor of future math fluency.

Dominoes

Dominoes are great math tools for addition, subitizing, making ten, and a variety of math games.

The items that aren’t from my TPT store can be found on Amazon – I’ve made it easy for you to find by creating a link to a list! I do get a VERY small commission from these but I use that towards giveaways!
